1. Scope
1.1
This Standard covers qualification of shop manufacturers of laminated structural timber pressure-glued by the use of clamps or mechanical means other than nailing. It does not certify the laminated timbers so produced.
1.2
This Standard sets forth requirements for determining the initial and continuing suitability of a plant's personnel, equipment, and procedures to manufacture structural glued- laminated timber in accordance with CSA Standard O122.
1.3
Structural glued-laminated timber is an engineered wood product requiring precise manufacture at all stages of fabrication. Th e finished product cannot be readily tested except under laboratory conditions; therefore, quality control of manufacture is required to ensure that the properties of the finished product are commensurate with the working stresses assigned to the product in accordance with CSA Standard O86.
The manufacture of glued-laminated timber is covered by CSA Standard O122, frequently referred to in this Standard. This Standard does not certify the laminated timbers so produced.
1.4
This Standard qualifies individual plants; if more than one plant is operated by one fabricator, each plant shall require separate qualification. The process of glue laminating under conditions other than at an established factory is not covered by this Standard.
